The 458 Speciale Aperta was destined to be a blue-chip Ferrari someday. As the final open-top, naturally aspirated V8 Ferrari and one of only 499 built, its collectibility was baked in from the start.

Although, it wasn’t until 3-4 years ago that the collector car market starting picking up on just how special they are. When we examine its last 10 public auction sales, the data tells an even more compelling story, let’s dive in!

Market Analysis

Condition & Mileage
Mileage remains the single biggest driver of results. Delivery-mileage examples have consistently commanded significant premiums. The two standout cases β€” the 98-mile Bianco Avus car at Mecum Monterey 2022 ($962,500) and the 350-mile Rosso Corsa car at RM Sotheby’s in February 2025 ($1.65M) β€” show the gulf between preserved examples and β€œdriver” cars. By contrast, the 13k-mile Rosso Berlinetta car on Bring a Trailer in May 2020 brought just $476,000, nearly one quarter of the latest record. For collectors, sub-1,000-mile cars now trade in a completely separate tier.

Color & Spec
Color plays an outsized role in Aperta values. Giallo Modena cars have appeared more frequently at auction, with strong but varied results depending on condition and time of sale: the 1,206-mile Mecum car in 2017 brought $682,000, while the 3k-mile example at Bring a Trailer in 2022 fetched $850,000. Meanwhile, the Bianco Avus example crushed expectations at nearly $1M, highlighting the rarity and desirability of unusual colors. Rosso Corsa, while more common, still dominates at the top of the market as seen in the $1.65M 2025 sale due its mileage.

The question is, how much is a sub-500 mile example finished in another color would be worth? My bet is that this unique Blu TdF example sold for close to $1.8-$2M.

Options & Equipment
Options significantly impact outcomes. Titanium exhaust, suspension lifter, and AFS lighting appear as recurring β€œmust-have” options. Heavy carbon fiber content and factory racing seats also boost appeal. The very best-spec’d cars β€” often with $30k–$60k in options β€” tend to cluster at the top of the market. Cars with full carbon aero, leather/Alcantara blends, and stripe packages consistently outperform less distinctive specs.

Timing
The timing of sales shows a clear trajectory. Early sales in 2017–2018 traded in the $626k–$726k range, reflecting a market still digesting Ferrari’s last NA V8 Spider. The dip in 2020, with several results under $500k, coincided with broader market uncertainty and higher-mileage examples coming to auction. By 2021–2022, values surged back into the $630k–$960k range, before peaking dramatically with the $1.65M RM Sotheby’s result in 2025.

Where the Market is Going

The Aperta market has entered a new phase. Ultra-low-mileage, collector-grade examples are setting records and re-pricing the model higher, while higher-mileage cars are definitely out of the $500k–$600k range it previously was. Modern classic Ferraris, particularly limited-production V8s, have seen strong appreciation in the last 6 months, and the Aperta is now firmly leading that charge.

CMI insights: Expect continued upward momentum. While the $1.65M record represents a high-water mark, the floor is rising. Even driver-quality Apertas now seem poised to solidify above $900k, while rare-color, sub-1k-mile examples will chase seven figures consistently. For collectors, this car has transitioned from β€œmodern halo Ferrari” into β€œblue-chip asset.”

  • Mileage: 1,200 miles

  • Date Sold: Dec 2022

  • Auction House: Bring a Trailer

Overview
Finished in Giallo Modena with blue and white center stripes over a Nero Alcantara interior, this Aperta had 1,200 miles at the time of sale. While mechanically well-optioned with titanium exhaust, carbon-fiber seats, and a suspension lifter, the condition history is notable: a Carfax entry shows an accident in November 2015 that caused disabling front-end damage. The front bumper cover was subsequently refinished. At the time of auction, two open recalls remained for the airbag ECU and brake oil reservoir. Despite the blemishes, the car still commanded strong money, supported by its low mileage and desirable specification.

Spec Highlights

  • Giallo Modena w/ blue and white center stripe

  • Nero Alcantara carbon-fiber racing seats w/ yellow accents & blue belts

  • Carbon fiber racing seats, carbon trim

  • Titanium exhaust, suspension lifter

  • Blue brake calipers, split-spoke alloys

  • Mileage: 350 miles

  • Date Sold: Feb 2025

  • Auction House: RM Sotheby’s

Overview
The most recent headline result for the Aperta market, this Rosso Corsa over Alcantara Nera example showed fewer than 350 miles at cataloguing. As expected for such a low-mileage car, it presented in pristine condition, effectively preserved as a collection piece from new. Beyond its condition, the car carried a highly desirable set of factory options including titanium exhaust, carbon-fiber trim, and size-large racing seats. Its $1.65M result set a new benchmark for the model, reflecting both its delivery mileage rarity and the current surge of demand for Aperta examples in top specification.

Spec Highlights

  • Rosso Corsa over Alcantara Nera

  • Titanium exhaust system

  • Size large carbon-fiber racing seats

  • Carbon fiber rear flaps & wheel center caps

  • Scuderia Ferrari shields
